The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

ML Macadamia proves a
tough nut to crack

ML Macadamia Orchards LP, the worst-performing stock this year in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index, was one of the few survivors this week as it gained 1.55 percent to top the list. The Big Island company, whose shares closed yesterday at $3.27, is down 17 percent year-to-date and 24.6 percent over the past 52 weeks.

Cyanotech Corp., also on the Big Island, plunged 20.4 percent to 78 cents, including a 31 percent drop Thursday after announcing mixed results from tests involving its nutritional product, BioAstin. The company's highest closing price this year was $1.61 on June 4.
