Arboretum guides sought

The Lyon Arboretum is offering training for those interested in being arboretum tour guides.

Applications are being accepted for the free class, which begins Sept. 25. The class will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday mornings through Dec. 4, covering topics such as basic botany, ethnobotany and information about the arboretum's history and collections.

No experience is necessary. Call Jill Laughlin at 988-0471.

Light up drab home

GE Lighting is searching for the drabbest home in America for its "Drab to Fab!" Home Makeover Contest.

Send one interior home photo (no kitchens or bathrooms) and write in 200 words or less, "why this home needs a Drab to Fab! makeover."

The grand prize winner will receive a home makeover valued at about $10,000. Ten semifinalists will receive a desiger floor lamp with a four-pack of GE Reveal light bulbs.
