Group offers support for grief recovery

GriefShare, a recovery seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of a loved one, will begin Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu, 1822 Keeaumoku St.

The group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Dec. 6. Each meeting will feature a video presentation. Coordinator Russell Pang will lead group discussions.

The seminar is free and open to the public. A $12 workbook is available, and free child care will be provided. For information, call 532-1111.

Mililani church to host block party for families

Mililani Presbyterian Church will host its third annual block party for the Kuahelani Avenue neighborhood next Saturday.

Free fun from 4:30 to 7 p.m. will include the Skanabata ska band and the New Hope Hula Halau, clowns and a Bouncer game for children. Hot dogs, chili and rice, and desserts will be served.

The church, at 95-410 Kuahelani Ave., is next to Kipapa Park.

Touch of Heaven founder to speak this month

Australian Christian writer Carver Alan Ames will lecture at several Hawaii Catholic churches this month.

The founder of Touch of Heaven, a prayer and healing outreach center in Perth, Western Australia, will speak at the following locations on the importance of trusting in God:

>> Tuesday: 6:30 p.m., St. Sophia Church, Kaunakakai.

>> Thursday: 7 p.m., St. Joseph Church, Hilo.

>> Friday: 7 p.m., Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 1525 Waimano Home Rd., Pearl City.

>> Next Saturday: 10 a.m., St. John Apostle & Evangelist Church, 95-370 Kuahelani Ave., Mililani.

>> Sept. 9: 1 p.m., St. Patrick Church, 1124 7th Ave., Kaimuki.

Lutheran church to welcome new pastor

The congregation of Lutheran Church of Honolulu will install a new pastor and celebrate its 101st anniversary next weekend.

The Rev. David J. Barber will succeed the Rev. Donald K. Johnson, who retired last year after 32 years. Barber has served as interim pastor for the past year.

The church's four choirs and the Honolulu Brass will perform at the 5:30 p.m. service next Sunday. A reception will follow. For reservations, call the church office, 941-2566.
