Abigail "Abbie" Asako Abe, 58, of Hilo, a teacher for 27 years at Byrd Elementary School in Japan, died Monday in Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Pepeekeo, Hawaii. Edward Duarte, 77, of Makaweli, Kauai, a shop superintendent for Gay & Robinson, died Monday in Kauai Veterans Hospital. He was born in Makaweli. Howard H. Hayashi, 69, of Cave Creek, Ariz., formerly of Honolulu, who retired from the U.S. Air Force Band, died Monday in Maui. He also retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was born in Honolulu.
