Saturday, August 25, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

City Bank parent CB Bancshares Inc., whose stock rose the last four days, climbed 4.96 percent this week to top the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index. While the Fed's rate cut may have factored in the gain, the quarter-percentage point reduction didn't help the other Hawaii banks. Surging CB Bancshares
leads the wayBank of Hawaii parent Pacific Century Financial Corp. fell 3.39 percent and Central Pacific Bank parent CPB Inc. lost 6.63 percent. First Hawaiian Bank parent BancWest Corp, awaiting the close of its merger, was unchanged.
