SMALLER THAN A BASKETBALL

Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joined Charla
Figueroa of the Big Island in holding Figueroa's baby
Shayna yesterday at Ronald McDonald House in Manoa.
Abdul-Jabbar was visiting kids and families at Ronald
McDonald House as part of Montego Joe's Caribbean
Festival, a benefit for Ronald McDonald House charities.
Currently 2 1/2 months old, Shayna Figueroa was born
10 weeks premature with complications, but she and her
mother were released from the care facility yesterday.
Abdul-Jabbar said that when he was born, he weighed
13 pounds, compared to Shayna's 2 pounds, 3.5 ounces.

Under the watchful and hungry eyes of spectators
yesterday afternoon, members of the United Church
of Christ pulled the first pigs from an imu in preparation
for its 45th annual fund-raiser luau. The luau takes place
today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church.
