The wait is over for
Zia’s enthusiasts

Loyalists of Zia's Caffe in Kailua and customers new to Tressa Owens' cuisine now have an additional opportunity to get a hold of that signature olive pesto.

Zia's Caffe in Kaneohe is open for business, wafting fragrant aromas into open car windows along Kamehameha Highway across from Windward City Shopping Center. The company is co-owned by Don Dymond, who also owns Kailua's Kalapawai Market.

This wait has just begun

Dave & Buster's General Manager Sean McCullough just arrived in Hawaii from about a year in San Diego, where he oversaw the opening of a restaurant and the hiring of more than 300 employees.

Before that, he opened a location in Utica, Mich. He was there for two years.

This latest round of gunslinging for the Dallas-based parent company is sitting quite well with him.

"Hopefully I'll be here for awhile. I'm hoping for quite awhile," McCullough said.

During a househunting trip to Oahu last month he and his wife found a home in Ewa Beach. "We're waiting for our stuff to come in off the boat," he said. For now they're in a hotel.

Only insiders know ...

... that the two silver Honda Civics and one gold Honda Accord featured in a future Honda commercial are from TheoDavies Big Island Honda in Kona.

Jim Crawley, general manager of both the Kona and Hilo stores, said national Honda advertising has been produced in Hawaii "quite a few times, particularly on the Big Island -- because of its topography."

He said Honda's ad agency contacts him directly

"They call us on occasion and ask if they can use a car or two. It's easier for us to provide than for them to ship from Los Angeles," he said.

In the past seven or so years, Hawaii has been the featured locale three or four times, Crawley said.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based production company Tuesday Films is shooting the spot in areas between Hawi and Laupahoehoe. Crawley said the "celebrity cars" should return by Tuesday.
