If the 15-year-old Hawaii native should win, she'll also have the chance to appear on the cover of YM magazine.
"The search brought us five incredible girls," stated Next Co-President Joel Wilkenfeld. "We are very excited to meet and get acquainted with each of them and will choose the finalist based on winning looks, a positive attitude and a charming personality."
Each of the hopefuls will be feted at Serafina in New York City on Tuesday, where one will receive the grand prize. Those finalists who do not win will receive a $100,000 modeling contract.

Macy's parade seeks hula dancers
Old Lahaina Luau is auditioning experienced male and female hula dancers to perform in the upcoming Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Auditions will be held on Aug. 18 on the Old Lahaina Luau grounds.Each of the dancers will receive $600 compensation as well as an all-expenses-paid trip to New York, not to mention the chance to be seen by a national television audience of 65 million in addition to the 2 million or so who line the parade route.
This is the second year of participation in the parade by Maui-based Old Lahaina.

Dog shows scheduled
Barbers Point Elementary School will be the site of the West Oahu Kennel Club all-breed dog shows on Aug. 18 and 19."Over 500 dogs are expected to compete each day, representing over 150 breeds at these two American Kennel Club licensed shows," according to West Oahu Kennel Club President Virginia O'Connor (via a press release). First up is individual breed judging, followed by Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Group competitions. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. Awards and fashion
The Fil-Am Courier is hosting an awards ceremony and fashion show at the Ilikai Hotel Pacific Ballroom on Aug. 19.The awards honor the year's Top 15 Filipino-American achievers in Hawaii. The fashion show will feature the work of four leading designers, Edgar Madamba, Edgar San Diego, Richard Papa and Lito Perez.

Linking kids and seniors
Organizations interested in creating or working in programs that link children and seniors are invited to the Hawai'i Intergenerational Network convention Wednesday to Aug. 17.Presentations will be made on programs under way in Hawaii, the mainland, Japan and Singapore.
These include foster grandparent programs, child-care centers and more.
