Cleveland Johnson, a crusader for equality through his Tampa Bay-area newspaper, the Weekly Challenger, died Sunday in St. Petersburg of lung cancer. He was 73.
Elizabeth Yates McGreal, author of about 50 books including the classic children's tale "Amos Fortune, Free Man," died Sunday in Hospice House in Concord, N.H., several months after suffering a stroke. She was 95.
Frederick Moss, chairman of the Cincinnati Stock Exchange since 1989, died Friday of cancer. He was 72.
Martin Stern Jr., who designed casino hotels in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, died Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 84. The architect was partly responsible for creating the glitzy skyline of the Las Vegas Strip. Over a 30-year period, Stern designed a skyscraper and convention center at the Sahara Hotel, an expansion tower at the Sands Hotel and the MGM Grand Hotel, which later became Bally's.
Miklos Vasarhelyi, a close associate of Hungarian Prime Minister Imre Nagy during the 1956 revolt against Soviet rule, died Tuesday of heart problems, state-run radio reported. He was 83. Vasarhelyi, a founder of the Alliance of Free Democrats, won a seat in Parliament in 1990 democratic elections. He served one four-year term.
