with having sex with a 10-year-old

Star-Bulletin staff

It was the discovery of videotapes of Shane Fernandez sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter that led to his arrest, according to a Honolulu police affidavit.

He has been charged with 10 counts of sexual assault in the first degree, 16 counts of sexual assault in the third degree and three counts of promoting child abuse.

Fernandez, 23, made his initial court appearance on the charges yesterday and remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court again tomorrow for a preliminary hearing.

According to the affidavit, the mother of the girl made the discovery Saturday at the Pupunohe Street apartment she shares with Fernandez.

Fernandez was arrested that evening at his work place.
