Two more suspects were arrested last night in connection with the beating death of a 35-year-old man at Waianae District Park earlier this month.

Arrested yesterday were an 18-year-old man and 15-year-old boy, both of Waianae.

Branden Adkins, 18, also of Waianae, was arrested Saturday and charged with the July 14 murder of William Van Winkle.

Van Winkle's body was found on the basketball courts at the park, naked from the waist down. His shorts were found in a trash can nearby.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner said Van Winkle died of blunt head trauma.

Adkins made his initial court appearance yesterday and remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing.

According to a police affidavit, Adkins was among eight teenagers who were heading to the Waianae Boat Harbor to confront a man who had fought earlier with one of their friends.

They confronted Van Winkle at the park.

The friend whom the group went to help told police Adkins and another teen repeatedly kicked Van Winkle and left him unconscious and bleeding from his face and head, according to the affidavit.

Later, the two teens went back to the basketball court, and when they returned, Adkins smoked some "ice" he said he had taken from Van Winkle, and the other teen said he had removed Van Winkle's shorts, according to the affidavit.
