The following is a preview of movies opening this weekend that runs every Tuesday in the Star-Bulletin: [Preview]
"Original Sin" -- Hot off the heels of "Tomb Raider," Angelina Jolie returns to the big screen as a mysterious mail-order bride for a Cuban coffee magnate (Antonio Banderas) in the 1880s. The story is adapted from Francois Truffaut's "Mississippi Mermaid," but all that matters, once again, is putting Jolie's physical attributes on display, and seeing her turn on her femme fatale charms (R).
"The Princess Diaries" -- This light, all-ages comedy from Disney is about a geeky and socially awkward teenage girl who finds out she's the princess of a small European country. Anne Hathaway stars with Julie Andrews, who plays the royal grandmother who tries to be the Henry Higgins to the girl's Eliza Doolittle (G).
"Rush Hour 2" -- Hoping to follow up on the 1998 original's boffo box office, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reunite in this sequel. This time the action heads to Chan's home turf of Hong Kong, where they get involved in a conspiracy involving casinos, bombs and Zhang Ziyi, in a role originally written for a man but retooled after director Brett Ratner saw her in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (PG-13).
"U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts": The Arts Recognition and Talent Search offers scholarships to high school seniors in the areas of dance, film and video, classical, pop and jazz music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing. [Scoops]
