VanderVoort top angler in Na Pua O Ke Kai

Malia VanderVoort, aboard the Start Me Up Action, landed a 530-pound Pacific Blue marlin to win $5,000 in the 6th Huggo's Na Pua O Ke Kai women's fishing tournament off the Kailua-Kona coast.

Second place went to Carol Holt, who boated a 441-pound marlin in just 45 minutes. Holt and the rest of Team Boomerang -- Thea Beaudet, Ola Texeira and Candy Metzger -- earned an entry into next month's Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament.

Some 300 women competed in what is considered the largest all-female fishing event in the Pacific.

Hawaii's Own

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis School and Hawaii Pacific alumnus was taken out for defensive purposes again in New York's 6-5 win over the Phillies. But it probably had more to do with his history in the outfield than his performance before he was taken out. Agbayani played errorless ball in left field and recorded his first assist of the season in the fourth inning, catching an aggressive Scott Rolen trying to stretch a single into a double.

Agbayani was 1-for-2 from the plate but did plenty of the little things to help his team win. He singled in the fourth off Nelson Figueroa and was hit by a pitch in the sixth. Agbayani made Figueroa pay for the pain he inflicted though, stealing second base while Todd Zeile struck out. It was Agbayani's first stolen base since June 30 and evened his career success rate at 50 percent (15 for 30).

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani School product did not pitch in Los Angeles' 3-2 loss to Colorado after throwing a scoreless inning Saturday. He has only pitched in two of the Dodgers' last seven games and has not been trusted with a close game since July 15.

Brandon Villafuerte, Rangers: The Hilo native stayed in the bullpen as Rick Helling pitched a complete game in Texas' 2-0 win over Tampa Bay. Villafuerte pitched in successive games before yesterday.
