Down with the old
Saplings will replace
these dead ironwoods
DENNIS ODA / DODA@STARBULLETIN.COM
Clockwise from left, Rudy Arciaga, Fili Fitoa, Pono Kane
and Noe Undan stood around some of the large ironwood
trees that they had cut down yesterday near the Waikiki
Bandstand. The trees were to be loaded into a truck,
hauled away and chopped into compost material. The
ironwood trees were cut down because they were
diseased and weak. A large ironwood tree, below,
was cut down earlier. Most of the ironwoods
were more than 100 years old. The city will
replace them with new ironwood saplings.
