It may well be that only in Hawaii would there be such a celebration of diversity as the Ethnic Heritage Festivals being held in the courtyard of Honolulu Hale every few weeks. It began with the Samoans last Friday night at 7 and is scheduled to continue until next May, all at 7 in the evening. Where Erin
go, brah?Okinawans will produce their festival on Aug. 17, the Hispanics on Sept.22, and the Koreans on Oct. 5. They will be followed by the Portuguese on Oct. 26, the Tongans on Nov. 2, and the Puerto Ricans on Nov. 9. After the year-end holidays, the series will resume with a Japanese festival on Jan. 11, the Chinese on Feb. 22, which is just after the Lunar New Year, and a combined festival of Cambodians, Laotians and Thai on March 15. African-Americans will celebrate on April 26 and the Vietnamese on May 17.
Readers will please forgive an ethnic question, but when do the Irish dancers and the Scots pipers appear? During Oktoberfest?
