Hilo's Hayashi claims club pro championship
Hilo Municipal head golf pro Kevin Hayashi carded a final round 71--140 to win the Aloha Section PGA Section Club Professional Championship by a stroke yesterday at the Wailea Gold Course on Maui.Hayashi earned $2,500 and 200 points towards Hawaii Player of the Year. Makena's Brian Sasada shot a 67--141 for second, earning $1,500 and 150 points.
Kim, Vierra share Waialae Women's lead
Bev Kim and Sanae Vierra shot 4-over 76s to share the championship flight lead going into today's final round of the Waialae Women's Invitational golf tournament at Waialae Country Club.Defending champion Mona Kim Lee was five strokes back after shooting an 81.
Sanae, a 10-handicapper, was the low-net leader with a 66.
Pearl City Pearls to softball regional
Pearl City Pearls defeated Sunflowers, 27-2, in the championship game of the Babe Ruth 16-under Softball State Tournament to advance to the regional.The Pearls advance to Calexico, Calif., to represent Hawaii in the 16 and under Babe Ruth Softball Regional Tournament. The winner of this tournament will be advancing to Abbeville, La., to participate in the 16 and under Babe Ruth Softball World Series.
Pearls City Pearls are the defending Pacific South West Regional Champions and in 2000 they represented the region at the World Series at Millville, N.J.
Deadline tomorrow for UH volleyball camp
Youth and adult camps run by the University of Hawaii men's volleyball program are scheduled for July 23-27.The youth camp, open to boys and girls entering 4th grade through 2001 high school graduates, runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The adult camp will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
The cost is $130 per camper. UH assistant coaches Tino Reyes and Aaron Wilton headline a staff that includes current and former UH players.

Super Brawl XXI set for Saturday
Past Super Brawl winner Egan Inouye and former University of Hawaii football player Falaniko Vitale headline the card at Saturday's Super Brawl XXI extreme fighting competition at 7:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.Inouye will take on Brett Al-Azzawi in the main event while Vitale faces Dennis Reed of Iowa on the undercard. Also on the eight-bout undercard is Marcelo Tiger (33-1) of Brazil going against Wesley Correira.
Tickets are available at the Blaisdell box office and all ticket outlets. Reserved seating tickets are $25 in advance and $29 at the door. There are also a limited number of VIP ringside seats available for $50 each.

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific alumnus went 2-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in New York's 3-0 win over Toronto.Agbayani exited the game in the seventh when Jay Payton was put in as a pinch runner.
Toronto manager Buck Martinez was upset with Roy Halladay for walking Agbayani in the fifth to bring up Mike Piazza.
"Benny is a big-league hitter, but he's not Mike Piazza, and you can't walk him in that situation," Martinez said.
Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani graduate did not pitch in Los Angeles' 6-4 win over Pittsburgh.
