She’s crazy/beautiful
but also a prankster

DUNST caper: Beautiful actress Kirsten Dunst may well be both "crazy/beautiful," the title of her current film. While she was dining with her two brothers and their mom at I'o restaurant in Lahaina, she turned the tables on the boys, who'd been having a ball changing the signs for the men's and ladies' rooms. Kirsten quietly asked restaurant manager Tisha Steele to give them a playful scare. She really ladled it on, fabricating a story about an embarrassed female guest who was interrupted by a gentleman because of the reversed signs, and said she was going to sue. The boys were frightened at first, but Kirsten's giggles gave it away that the joke was on them ...

ROY as in Royal: Visiting Japanese Imperial Prince Takamado and his wife, Princess Hisako dined at Roy's in Hawaii Kai Sunday night, and traffic was halted on Kalanianaole for a bit to get the motorcade heading back into town. But the search light that beamed over 10 miles from Hawaii Kai to Koko Marina wasn't for the Royal Couple. It heralded the grand opening of the newest 24-Hour Fitness Center that drew hundreds to the area ... Another royal diner, sort of, was Sydney Fernandez Fasi, the beautiful new Mrs. Hawaii. She turned heads at the Big Island Steak House last week when dining with husband David Fasi, her mom, Linda Fernandez and brother Scott. She thrilled a group of visiting GIs by posing for photos with them and mom presented her with a Mary Catherine's cake, complete with a crown made of frosting ...

Creature feature

ONE guest on the Perry & Price morning show Saturday at the Hanohano Room was Ben Chapman, the titular "Creature From the Black Lagoon," promoting his appearance at the weekend's All-Collectors show at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Also at the show will be Richard Kiel, the 6-foot-9 actor who played "Jaws" in the James Bond flicks, and whose pretty daughter, Jennifer, attended HPU. P&P also featured Cary-Horiyuki Tagawa, who appeared in "Rising Sun," "Mortal Combat" and "Pearl Harbor," and whose next feature is "Planet of the Apes," due out later this month. Tagawa so impressed the producers that they've put his face on the movie poster ...

FORMER Advertiser columnist Tom Horton, who now owns the Stinson Beach Bar & Grill in California, called from Huggo's in Kona Sunday morning to ask the score of the St. Louis Cardinal game. Seems he picked up an Advertiser out of habit and found three different scores for that game. I checked my Star-Bulletin and gave him the right score ...

The name game

WE ran Scott Vogel's story July 1 about popular names for babies and how Biblical names are popular among boys, while Taylor came out No. 1 for girls, followed by Kayla, Alyssa and Ashley. The week before, Destiny was the No. 1 name with three being born. In this Sunday's paper list there was one Taylor and one Kaylin Ashley. But the "A's" clearly still have it, with an Amanda, Angela, A'jalaia, Alayna and my personal favorite, Amenitydenim Taimani Ho'ihi Akiona-Tang. Not since rocker Frank Zappa named his kid Moon Unit, have we seen its equal ...
