NEOSOUL

These Are
Tha Breaks!

Our own DJ Evil (Bryan Mizota's spinning monicker) is the mastermind behind Project Genesis, what is described as "an ongoing series of events ... exploring and exposing Hawaii to the leading edge of music that always remember 'tha breaks.' " Past events included concerts with Razed In Black/Transmutator, Ozomatli, Black Eyed Peas and Switchblade Symphony and dances with DJs Melo-D of the Beat Junkies and Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell.

Now he's teamed up with the number-one breakbeat DJ in the world, Simply Jeff, and national breakout duo Neosouls, to bolster The Pacific Breaks Connection, "a likeminded set of DJs and artists determined to bring back the once thriving and global-influential West Coast breaks music back to the forefront."

Tomorrow night's gig featuring all three is named in honor of the name of Simply Jeff's new record label, Phonomental Music, which released the connection's first record. "The Phonomental Hawaii Invasion" is in full effect!

>> Place: The Eye, 3259 Koapaka St.
>> Time: 9 p.m. tomorrow, all ages welcome
>> Admission: $15 before 11 p.m. and $18 afterward
