The Kewalo Holy Ghost Society held a procession yesterday
in Kakaako in a uniquely Portuguese celebration of the
Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles.
Above, a statue of young Jesus is carried out of the
society's grounds onto Queen Street. Among the
carriers is Sarah Lehmann, rear right.

WEARING A BIT OF HISTORY

KEN IGE / KIGE@STARBULLETIN.COM
Busy senior Ernest Silva stood still the other day to show
off his jacket, which reflects his love of Hawaiian music.
|It is decorated with the names of just about every local
musician you can think of. Silva, 83, lives in Pauoa Valley
but grew up in Kakaako, where he played in the old barefoot
football league for the Kakaako Sons. That explains the hat.
