Police are investigating the death of a Palolo man in his early 60s who was found lying on his living room floor with injuries to his upper body yesterday afternoon.

Homicide Lt. Bill Kato said police have classified the death as "suspicious unattended" because of some of the circumstances of the death.

A friend of the man, who phones him regularly, called police after he had not heard from him since last Sunday, Kato said.

The man appeared to have died a few days ago.

Police went to the one-story corner house on Kupaa Drive at 1:30 p.m. yesterday and discovered the body near the front door, which was wide open, Kato said.

There were no signs of a forced entry or use of a weapon, Kato said. The open front door was not visible from the street because of overgrown brush.

Neighbors say they last saw the man between Tuesday and Thursday in his yard.

Neighbors say the man, who lived alone and kept to himself, never spoke to them.

Kato said an autopsy will be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death.
