Jehovah's Witnesses begin annual convention

About 7,000 delegates are expected at the annual Oahu district conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses, which got under way yesterday at the Watchtower Educational Center-Pacific in Mililani Technical Park.

Education will be the theme of the three-day program, which will be repeated on subsequent weekends for a total of 11 conventions throughout the islands. All sessions at the center at 239 Palii St. are open to the public. They will begin at 9:30 a.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 1:30 p.m. Sundays.

A total of 18,000 delegates are expected at meetings, which will also convene on Maui, Kauai and Hawaii.

Toys get medical help at Teddy Bear Clinic

Torn and tattered teddy bears and other soft toys will be examined and remedial surgery performed by medical professionals during the First Presbyterian Church's annual Teddy Bear Clinic and Fair next Saturday.

The event at 1822 Keeaumoku St. will also include children's rides and carnival games, a petting zoo, food booths and an adoption booth where previously cherished toys will be available. The fair, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the public.

Made in Hawaii fashion

The "Made in Hawaii with Aloha" dinner and fashion show presented by First Hawaiian Bank and the Retail Merchants of Hawaii is scheduled to take place 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

The show will also feature the 15th annual Governor's Fashion Awards. Tickets are$60 per person, or a table of 10 for $500. To reserve, call 592-4200.
