North Shore Bistro, the partnership that owns chef Jean Marie Josselin's A Pacific Cafe in Kihei, Maui, filed for bankruptcy yesterday. Pacific Cafe on
Maui in bankruptcyBy Betty Shimabukuro
bshimabukuro@starbulletin.comJosselin said the filing was a "financial move" that he would not discuss further. But he said it did not necessarily mean the popular restaurant, the largest of his three in Hawaii, would close.
The restaurant is doing well, he said, although business is down. "We're not doing the same numbers as last year. Maui as a whole is not doing the same business, and nine restaurants opened in two months in that area. ... It's going to settle nicely later on."
Until last year, Josselin operated five Hawaii restaurants. A Pacific Cafe on Oahu closed last year and the Beach House in Poipu, Kauai, which he ran under a lease with the owners, was sold. He still owns the original A Pacific Cafe, in Kapaa, Kauai, and another outlet in Konokawai, Maui. Last November, just after closing his Oahu restaurant, Josselin opened 808 in Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
