David Copperfield
returns in August

Star-Bulletin

Master illusionist David Copperfield returns to the islands Aug. 18 to 26 with "Portal," being touted as "his most spectacular stage show ever."

The Blaisdell Concert Hall show promises quite an encore, with an illusion where 13 members of the audience, chosen at random, will vanish in a fiery blast, with some reappearing miles away and others not coming back at all (gasp!). Besides the grand trick of the evening, Copperfield will also do more intimate sleight-of-hand work.

He was last here in 1998 with his then-Broadway show "Dreams and Nightmares" -- a long way from his days when he worked his magic at the C'est Si Bon at the Pagoda Hotel.

Tickets for David Copperfield's "Portal" go on sale Saturday morning at 9, at the Blaisdell box office and all TicketPlus outlets, including Foodland, Sac n' Save and military locations. Performances are 8 p.m. Aug. 18, 20 and 24; 5 and 8 p.m. Aug. 19, 25 and 26. The production will be interpreted for the deaf and hearing-impaired community at 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

Tickets are $85 and $60 for the 8 p.m. performances, $70 and $55 for the 5 p.m. shows. A $5 discount will be given for children 12 and under, senior citizens 62 and older and military with ID at all ticket outlets (exclusive of Saturday nights). Charge by phone by calling 526-4400. Groups of 15 or more also get a 10 percent discount every day except Saturday by calling 732-7733.
