Loomis Inc. looms
over old office

From his company's new digs, "in what I will always refer to as the Blackfield building where Dickens Pub used to be," ad man Jim Loomis can see his old offices above Piikoi Street.

As with many corporate relocations, however, the difference between the old and new space is as night is to day.

He said the new space with its new furnishings and phone system has invigorated the staff.

Loomis Inc. moved into roof deck suite 6C at 1221 Kapiolani Blvd. on June 4.

"It's already too small," Loomis said, "as we picked up Cutter Automotive."

The ad contract is for Cutter's eight locations on Oahu and Maui -- the business apparently followed Jon Rasmussen and Barbara Hunt to their new jobs at Loomis from the now-defunct MM&M Advertising Inc. That company's president, Larry Feinberg, has opened Advance Advertising in its stead.

"I would never hire somebody to steal a client from an ad agency," Loomis said, "but apparently Nick Cutter was happy with the service they provided and indicated they were ready to move."

Cutter's advertising is not likely to take any shots at The Tony Group's new auto mall.

"I think the Cutter name is so well established and its reputation is so solid, you just keep your head up, your eyes open and your feet moving," Loomis said -- advice from an old football coach that has extended beyond the gridiron.

New face to News 8

The weekend anchor team of Diane Ako and Eric Elizaga at KHNL will soon be joined by weather producer Mary Ann Esteban.

A University of Hawaii graduate, she majored in math and meteorology, and is currently a master's candidate in meteorology.

Executive News Director Seth Feldman said the decision was made to hire someone knowledgeable about weather that could be taught the ins and outs of television. "This is an opportunity to do something the other stations aren't doing," he said.

Feldman said Esteban's addition makes News 8 the only station with two meteorologists. Esteban is to make her debut in about a month. Feldman said his only on-camera plans for her right now involve weekend newscasts.
