After a 12-year stay in California, Konishi, 30, is returning as the recruiting coordinator and to work with pitchers for the University of Hawaii baseball program.
"It's a great opportunity for me," said the 1989 Punahou School graduate. "Hopefully I can help put the UH program back on the map. It's an opportunity that I look forward to.
"I'm very excited to be coming home."
Konishi, an all-state pitcher for the Buffanblu, was a four-year letterman at Cal, and the team captain his senior season. He served as a graduate assistant with the Golden Bears and then as an assistant at San Francisco City College. He spent the last six seasons at the University of San Francisco as the Dons' recruiting coordinator and pitching coach.
"I'm excited about having Chad on our staff," new Rainbow head coach Mike Trapasso said. "Chad brings a strong West Coast presence to our recruiting efforts. He is obviously familiar with the Islands and can help with our local recruiting efforts as well."
Konishi is the second assistant named by Trapasso. Last week, it was announced that Georgia Tech volunteer assistant Josh Sorge, 29, would join the UH staff as a hitting coach.
"I always knew that if I ever got a head coaching job, Josh was someone I wanted to take with me," said Trapasso, who was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech for seven seasons prior to taking the UH job. "He is an invaluable hitting coach and is responsible for much of the success on offense that Georgia Tech had over the past two seasons.
"We're very excited to have both of these guys on our staff."
Trapasso has two positions left to fill: director of baseball operations and volunteer assistant.
