Pineapple fest on Lanai

The ninth annual Pineapple Festival honoring pineapple plantation pioneers and their families in the 1920s takes place June 30 at Dole Park in Lanai City.

There will be a fun run/walk starting at 7:30 a.m., pineapple cooking and eating contests, arts and crafts booths, a historic-photograph exhibition, ethnic dances, music, local foods and keiki activities.

Entertainers include Lanai & Augie, Mana Ohana, Ten Feet, Touch of Gold and Hawaiian Time. The fest will end with a 10 p.m. fireworks display.

Fireworks in Kaanapali

In celebration of Independence Day, the Kaanapali Beach Resort Association will be presenting a free beachside concert and afternoon of keiki activities at Whalers Village center stage on July 4.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., families can enjoy the antics of Uncle Sam a k a "Sean the Clown" arriving on stilts with the "Juggling Monkey Boys" (Andrew Crawford and Chris McCoy), and Kenn Serrano's magic show with unicycle riding and balloon animals. Children can also have their faces painted. Activities will continue until 6:30 p.m.

Live bands will entertain from 4:30 to 10 p.m. on the oceanfront lawn facing Leilani's, Whalers Village and Hula Grill. A fireworks show will start at 8:15 p.m. Prime viewing spots will be along Front Street and at higher elevations mauka of Honoapi'ilani Highway.

In addition:

>> Sheraton Maui will host its third annual July 4 Jamboree, to be held poolside. At 4 p.m., contemporary Hawaiian and classic American oldies entertainment will kick off the celebration, which continues to 10 p.m.; also, food stations will be set up to 8:30 p.m.

>> Maui Marriott Resort & Ocean Club presents its annual A Taste of Maui event, with food and beverage stations and oceanfront entertainment. Some family activities scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. are a watermelon-eating contest, pingpong and face painting.

>> Royal Lahaina Resort will present a concert in its Tennis Stadium from 3 to 9:30 p.m., which will feature local favorites including AZ, BET, Ekolu, Damon Williams, Hawaiian Rhythm and Any Kine. Tickets are $18 in advance and $23 at the door. Tickets are available at the resort, SuperStops, Request Music, Tropical Disc and Gaby's Pizzeria. Doors will open at 2 p.m.

Poipu Kapili golf package
