Workers clean each other before removing their suits after
decontaminating an abandoned pump house yesterday on
property owned by the Department of Land and Natural
Resources near Pearl Harbor. Mercury and contaminated
material will be shipped to a mainland hazardous-waste
disposal facility. The cleanup continues today.

Gary Gill, deputy director for environmental health, displayed a jar half
full of decontaminated mercury. Any mercury and contaminated material
will be shipped in drums to a mainland hazardous-waste disposal facility.
