Eleanor Buell Banks, 90, of Hawi, Hawaii, a retired schoolteacher at Kohala High School, died last Tuesday at home. She was born in Sioux Falls, N.D. She is survived by sons Robert S. and Ian, and two grandchildren. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Iole, Hawaii. Inurnment: Wainaia Cemetery in Kohala.

James W. "The Chief" Bass, 71, of Honolulu, a retired colonel with the U.S. Army, died last Tuesday at home. He was also a physician with Tripler Army Medical Center. He was born in Louisiana. He is survived by wife Beverly, daughters Pauly M. Wingers and Brian C. Ho, brother Jerry and three grandchildren. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew's Cathedral. Aloha attire. Florence Hastings Blades, 81, of Anderson, Ind., died Saturday in St. John's Health System in Anderson, Ind. She was born in Anderson, Ind. She is survived by son William F.; grandchildren Alan, Rene and Leigh Blades of Honolulu and Terry Barques; and great-grandchildren. Services on the mainland.

Cecy S. Browne, 88, of Kailua, a retired teacher at Windward School for Adults and Kalaheo High School, died June 9 at home. She is survived by daughters Nancy "Nani" Herzberg, Sally Coyne, JoAnn Zelaya and Marlene Dempsey, brother Orlando Souza-Filho and five grandchildren. Peter "Da-ete" Kapuhilani Kekua Jr., 64, of Kahuku, a retired heavy equipment operator, died June 4 at home.
