Music ProjectStaff and news service reports
EMP continues the tradition of recognizing artists who have changed the direction of American popular music. Performances will span rock 'n' roll from the 1950s through the 21st century, and feature icons that have left their imprint on the music we hear today.
Artists representing the decades on the consecutive nights are Little Richard ('50s), the self-described architect of rock 'n' roll; Iron Butterfly ('60s), whose dark and heavy melodies were the precursor to the rise of heavy metal in the '70s; Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service and The Doors' Ray Manzarek; Television ('70s), whose genre-defining punk sounds shook the mainstream rock establishment; Joan Jett and the Blackhearts ('80s), the guitar-toting rebels who influenced a generation of riot grrrls; and Public Enemy, whose provocative music transformed the sound and look of hip hop in the late '80s, the '90's and beyond.
Tickets are $22 general per concert to the all-ages shows. Bar access is offered with I.D. Call (206)-770-2702 for tickets.
Airport info available on wireless phone, pager
Information on airport delays, which the Federal Aviation Administration has been providing through the Web site www.fly.faa.gov, is being offered to travelers who have cell phones or pagers that are set up to receive e-mail; users simply register an e-mail address on the site. This means that travelers not carrying their computers and thus unable to sign onto the Internet can get a report on their wireless devices about an airport they are scheduled to use.
