If you believe yourself to be the prince or princess of poke, the time has come to put your recipe where your mouth is. Do you make
the perfect poke?Entries are being accepted for the Sam Choy Poke Festival, scheduled for Sept. 14 to 16 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel on the Big Island.
Top prizes are $3,500 in the professional division; $1,500 in the amateur division. Categories cover pokes that are traditional or cooked, as well as those that use hot sauce, ogo, surimi, hokkigai, macadamia nuts, soy sauce or tofu.
Entry fee is $75 for professional cooks or $20 for amateurs, per recipe. A total of 80 finalists will be chosen to compete Sept. 16 at the festival. Deadline is Aug. 1.

"Tastes and Tales of Moiliili," published by the Moiliili Community Center in 1997, has been selected to be part of a national collection of cookbooks, "America's Best Recipes -- A 2001 Hometown Collection." A cookbook classic
Oxmoor House is publishing the collection of 375 recipes from 146 cookbooks put out by volunteers to benefit community groups.

The father-son chef duo of Alfredo and Alfred Cabacungan will hold a cooking demonstration, noon Saturday at Liberty House Ala Moana. Father's Day demo
The elder Alfredo is a chef-instructor at Kapiolani Community College; Alfred is chef at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
Their menu: Mesclun Greens with Asian Pear, Candied Walnuts and Gorgonzola Cheese; Poached Fish with Herbed Roasted Tomato, Cuisson of Coconut Milk and Tapioca Pearls; and Deep-Fried Macadamia Nut-Crusted Five-Spice Pineapple Ice Cream.
