for Senior OpenNishimoto, last year's Hawaii qualifier, advances to the June 28-July 1 event at the Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass.
Kapalua's Dean Prince finished one shot behind Nishimoto to secure the first alternate spot. Low amateur honors and second alternate spot went to David Ishikawa with a 73.
The third alternate is Tommy Ukauka, the 1999 qualifier.
Simon, Kusutani top half-marathon finishers
Veteran runner Farley Simon was the overall winner and Sayuri Kusutani the top female finisher at yesterday's Hawaiian Half-Marathon.Simon won the inaugural 13.2-mile race in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 34 seconds. Brian Salter was nearly two minutes behind in 1:15:56.
Kusutani was timed in 1:20:57 over the course that started at Magic Island and finished at Kapiolani Park.
Yuko Arimori, a two-time Olympic marathon medalist from Japan, was second in 1:21:12.
Lane and Maafala lead Blue to Showcase win
Aritta Lane scored 24 points and Ceslie Maafala added 19 as the Blue team defeated the White team 55-51 in the first night of the Hawaii Girls Basketball Showcase.In the second match, Becky Hogue led the Black team with eight points in a 52-47 victory against the Gray team. Kahuku's Latoya Wily had 12 points in the loss.
Both games were played at Kalaheo High School last night.
The event is a fundraiser for the Hawaii Select Girls basketball team, which will travel to Las Vegas for junior nationals next month.
