>> Cammie Matsumoto has been chosen to participate in the National Institute for Leadership Development's Leaders 2001 program for administrators and faculty in higher education. She was chosen for her professional abilities, interests in advancement in higher education and quality of a proposed project. Matsumoto, staff development coordinator for the University of Hawaii Community Colleges, will be mentored during the yearlong program while she works on a Leadership Development Institute project that will aid the institution and foster individual professional growth. >> Melissa Cantillo, Sean Galera, Marissa Isaki, Steven Sedenio, Cherie Yamashiroya and Eleen Wang have been named first-place, Platinum Award winners for the interdisciplinary category of the national 2001 ThinkQuest Jr. competition. Galera and Yamashiroya are students at Moanalua Elementary School. Sedenio and Wang are students at Salt Lake Elementary. Cantillo attends Aiea Elementary. Isaki is a student at Moanalua Elementary. The students were awarded $1,000 for their achievement.
>> Bob Solomon has announced the kickoff of the Remember Campaign, a program designed to benefit the USS Arizona Memorial Fund. Solomon, owner and CEO of Applause LLC, will donate a portion of the money raised from sales of the company's Remember line of merchandise to the memorial fund. In addition, Solomon presented a $10,000 check to the fund during ceremonies held May 28. Money from the fund will go toward expanding the Arizona Memorial Museum and Visitor Center.
