‘Meet the Coach’
event for Trapasso at
Murphy’s tonight

Mike Trapasso, the new University of Hawaii baseball coach, will be the featured guest tonight at Murphy's Bar & Grill in downtown Honolulu.

The "Meet the Coach'' event will be carried live on KCCN 1420-AM radio from 6 to 7 p.m. Trapasso will answer questions from callers and the restaurant's audience during the radio show.

Don Murphy, the restaurant's owner, will donate 25 percent of the evening's revenue to the UH baseball program.

Wilson an All-American honorable mention

University of Hawaii shortstop Cortland Wilson was an honorable mention selection on the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American baseball team announced yesterday.

Wilson appeared in 40 games, starting 33, and hit .306 in 121 at-bats. The native of Sandy, Utah, drove in 23 runs -- fifth-best on the team.

UH co-ed sailing team finishes in sixth place

The UH co-ed sailing team placed sixth at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association/Ronstan North American Team Racing Championships in Cambridge, Mass., yesterday.

UH skippers Brent Harrill, Josh Henrich and Molly O'Bryan, along with Sarah Hitchcock, Renee DeCurtis, Ann Feeley-Summerl and Jennifer Wanock, helped UH to a 9-12 record in the Championship Division. Georgetown won with an 18-3 record.

Hawaii finishes its season at ICSA Dinghy National Championships today through Friday.

Prep girls basketball showcase next week

Aiea's Aritta Lane and Kalaheo's Brandy Richardson head the list of players slated to compete in the second annual Hawaii High School Girls Basketball Showcase.

The all-star event is June 11-13 at the Kalaheo High Gym. Game times are 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Lane helped Aiea beat Richardson and the Mustangs in the state championship game last month.

Others scheduled to participate are Monica Tokoro (Iolani), Becky Hogue (Punahou), Shannon Riley (Maryknoll), Erica Tadio (Honokaa), Jodi Nakashima (Roosevelt), Ashley Takata (Kalani), Natasha Kai (Kahuku) and Heather Massey (Radford).

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. All proceeds will go toward the Hawaii Select girls basketball team's trip to the U.S. Junior Nationals in Las Vegas next month.

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani alumnus pitched two-thirds of an inning in Los Angeles' 6-5 win against Arizona. Fetters entered the game in the eighth inning with one out and a runner at third base and the Dodgers clinging to a 6-5 lead. He struck out Reggie Sanders then closed out the inning by retiring Steve Finley on a line drive.

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific graduate did not play in New York's 9-0 win against Philadelphia. Agbayani has missed six consecutive games with a strained lower back.
