In revamping its annual Parade of Homes this year the Building Industry Association of Hawaii has also made a change to its official Parade of Homes 2001 guidebook. Parade of Homes
picks new publisherThrough a competitive bid process, the association board of directors has selected the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and MidWeek for the printing contract, valued at more than $100,000.
For more than a decade the two Parade of Homes publications were produced by the Hawaii Newspaper Agency and PMP Co. Ltd. in Wahiawa.
Last year, PMP published 30,000 copies of an 80-page glossy program. The program won a Pa'i Award from the Hawaii Publishers Association for its 1999 edition, and a second place award for the 2000 edition.
HNA published a tabloid, 140,000 copies of which were distributed via daily newspapers. In March, Gannett announced it would purchase PMP.
Jude Dadey, Parade of Homes coordinator, said this year, "We're going to a single, high-quality tabloid."
Some 250,000 full-color copies will be distributed via Honolulu Star-Bulletin sister-publication MidWeek. Another 50,000 will be distributed at retail locations around Oahu and on the neighbor islands, as well as in showcased homes, according to Star-Bulletin Real Estate Manager Eran Kennedy.
She said the Star-Bulletin/MidWeek is also a sponsor for the event.
"It's great for our product, the first year we're in business, to be trusted with this type of publication," said Don Kendall, president of Oahu Publications, which owns the Star-Bulletin and MidWeek. "We're excited about doing a first-class job for them."
"The guide is a directory to the entries in the event," said Vicky Gaynor, co-chairwoman of the Parade of Homes marketing committee. "It provides background on every entry, floor plans, interior and exterior photography of the entry, and directions on how to get to them."
The theme for this year's Oct. 6-7 and 13-14 event is, "Surprises Through Every Door."
