Larry Price, KSSK radio personality and former University of Hawaii football coach, was named chairman of the state Stadium Authority yesterday, replacing Michael Green.

"The board felt that maybe it was time to have a new chair because Michael Green served for four years, and maybe give someone else a chance," said stadium Manager Edwin K. Hayashi.

Price has been a member of the Stadium Authority for the past seven years. He has chaired several committees, including those concerning the Aloha Stadium swap meet, its management contract, and food and beverage services.

"We've already started in the past couple of months a management evaluation system for key employees and a swap meet vendors association," Price said.

Price said the past few years were tumultuous for the Stadium Authority, a nine-member board that runs the stadium.

He and other board members supported Consolidated Amusement's bid for the contract as swap meet vendor.

The Stadium Authority announced Thursday a two-year extension of its Aloha Stadium swap meet management contract with Consolidated.

Consolidated took over as flea market operator after Aloha Flea Market Inc.'s contract was not renewed in September 1999.

The action triggered lawsuits from Edward Medeiros, former operator of the Aloha Stadium flea market. In December the state agreed to pay Medeiros $295,000 to settle three lawsuits from his loss of the lucrative swap meet contract.

"We're glad that's all behind us," Price said.
