Two former national Junior Olympic champions from Hawaii have again been selected to attend the elite USA High Performance Volleyball Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Pair picked for

elite volleyball campAshley Dutro, 15, of Punahou School, and Monia Nihipali, 15, of Kamehameha School, were chosen from among 1,000 players at last month's tryouts at Reno, Nev.
They also attended last year's camp.
The two were on the Asics Hawaii Rainbow Volleyball Club team that won the 14-under title at the 1999 Junior Olympics.
Under-18 softball team to national competition
The Na Kolohe Girls 18-Under Fastpitch Softball team will represent Hawaii in the 2001 ASA Western National Tournament in Federal Way, Wash., from July 30 to Aug. 5. Hawaii placed fifth last year out of a 48-team field.The players are Trina La Rosa (Kaimuki), Cherlyn Ligot (Farrington), Shamra Ortiz (Farrington), Ashlie Dutro (Roosevelt), Crissy Moefu (Kaimuki), Kimi Daniel (Sacred Hearts), Temehani Cummings (Sacred Hearts), Jasmine McGuire (Sacred Hearts), Chante Mundon (Kailua), Shelby Ford (Kamehameha) and Janine Letoto (Kalani).

Wong fourth in Puerto Rico gymnastics meet
Elyse Wong, 16, from Kokokahi Gymnastics Team, won the gold medal on the uneven parallel bars, silver medal on the floor exercise and fourth place in the all-around at the San Juan International Gymnastics Festival held May 25-27 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
