The 12th annual Aloha State Games officially open Saturday with a day-long celebration at Kakaako Waterfront Park. The Games begin

Star-Bulletin staffPart community fair and part fitness exposition, the event runs from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Other activities include entertainment, a 2-on-2 basketball challenge, slam-dunk contest and demonstrations in four-person flag football, cheerleading and lacrosse.
Participants can pick up their entry packets and T-shirts beginning at noon on Saturday. Athletes can also register with no late-entry penalty.
The ASG flame will be lit by University of Hawaii associate head basketball coach Bob Nash at 7:30 p.m.
The lighting of the flame will be preceded by a torch relay run from Pearl Harbor to Kakaako Park beginning at 5:30 p.m. Among those carrying the torch will be national junior wheelchair champion Khan Wali and UH School of Medicine chairman Dr. Ed Cadman.
The first athletic competition is Saturday with bulls-eye pistol and action pistol shooting at the Koko Head Shooting Range.

Registration booklets also are available at all Starbucks Coffee and Jamba Juice locations. Registration fee for individual sports is $20 for up to six events ($15 for children under 12). For team sports, the fee is $30 per team plus $12 per team member.
