If it's summer, it's the time for the University of Hawaii players to start preparing for the 2002 collegiate baseball season.

Most of the Rainbows will be honing their skills playing summer ball across the western half of the United States.

Left-handed pitcher Aaron Pribble and outfielder Chad Boudon will be with the San Francisco Seals in the California Coastal Collegiate League.

Catcher Brian Bock will be in the same league, playing for the Santa Barbara Foresters. He had offers to play elsewhere, but decided to honor a commitment he made to the Foresters last summer, when he sat out due to an injury.

Shortstop Cortland Wilson and right fielder Tim Montgomery will head to the Jayhawk League and play for the Elkhart (Kan.) Dusters.

Outfielder Arthur Guillen will play in his hometown for the Porterville (Calif.) Pirates, a traveling team that plays 50-60 games, many in tournaments throughout the state.

Ryan Anderson, a catcher/designated hitter for the 'Bows, will play a second summer for Athletes In Action-Alaska. The team joins the Alaska Baseball League this year and will operate out of Fairbanks, sharing Growden Memorial Park with the Alaska Goldpanners.

Right-handed pitchers Will Quaglieri and Jean Paul Gauthier will pitch for the San Diego Mavericks in the Southern California Semi-Pro Collegiate League.

The Hawaii Island Movers will count on the following: closer Ryan Lee, a right-hander; infielder Gary Ahu, who redshirted this past spring, right-handed pitcher Sean Yamashita and outfielder Kevin Gilbride.

Outfielder Nate Jackson will spend his time in the weight room getting ready for the Warriors' football season and right-hander Chad Giannetti has decided to work out on his own this summer.

Lane Nogawa, Gavin Garrick, Derek Honma and Scooter Martines will spend the summer recovering from injuries so they are ready for fall practice.
