The eighth annual Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree, featuring some of the top high school girls basketball players in the state, is set for Saturday at the Iolani School Gym. Top female players

at Hannemann JamboreeAmong those on the four prep/collegiate rosters are Aritta Lane, Kylee Nakamura, Jasmine Dias and Keesha Aldridge from state champion Aiea; and Brandy Richardson, Heather Gonsalves and Nicole Furtado from state runner-up Kalaheo.
Former college players who will join the prep players on the court include former University of Hawaii standouts Nani Cockett, Melanie Azama and Fran Villarmia-Kahawai.
The event opens at 8:30 a.m. with a game between Aiea and Kalanianaole Athletic Club's 12-under teams. Play continues through the 4 p.m. prep/collegiate team championship.
There is no admission fee. Donations benefit the Gender Equity Sports Club.
Conference honors for BYU's Obrey, Jackson
Iolani School graduates Kainoa Obrey and Doug Jackson, sophomore teammates on the Brigham Young baseball team, were named to the All-Mountain West Conference first team.
Obrey, a third baseman, leads the Cougars with a .384 batting average and 84 hits. Outfielder Jackson is ranked nationally in triples (8).
BYU opens NCAA Regional play tomorrow against Rutgers at Lincoln, Neb.
Starbucks Paddling Shootout on Saturday
The Starbucks Paddling Shootout, a new one-man canoe, surfski and paddleboard competition, is set for Saturday at the Ko Olina Marina.
The event features heats of 10 paddlers on a two-mile course vying for a purse of $5,000.
Registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ko Olina Resort's Shoreline Park. Racing begins at 10 a.m.
The fee is $15 and includes lunch, T-shirt and refreshments. For more information, call 737-2076.

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: With runners at the corners and two outs in the seventh inning, the Iolani School graduate had Adam Melhuse all but picked off at first when he faked a pickoff to third and threw to first. However, he threw the ball away and allowed a run to score. Fetters was not charged with the run though, as he replaced starter Kevin Brown and nearly worked out of the jam before committing his first error of the season.
Fetters finished the inning with a strikeout of Neifi Perez and the Dodgers went on to win, 6-4.
