TOKYO, May 22 (Kyodo) - Yokozuna Takanohana showed no mercy to rank-and-filer Hayateumi on Tuesday, quickly muscling the No. 4 maegashira out of the ring to unbeaten and a step ahead of Chiyotaikai at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. Takanohana unbeaten;

striking distanceOzeki Chiyotaikai, meanwhile, showed his determination to stay at the heels of the yokozuna, pulling down Miyabiyama at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan for his ninth win of the tourney against one loss.
Miyabiyama, like Chiyotaikai, needing at least eight wins to hold onto his ozeki status, was left to wait for another day as he suffered his third loss to stand at 7-3 with five days remaining in the 15-day tourney.
In Tuesday's key bout, Takanohana absorbed Hayateumi's game, but ill-advised charge at the face-off and easily secured control of the smaller wrestler's sash and marched him to the straw bales.
When Hayateumi attempted to wiggle free at the edge, Takanohana calmly muscled him out with a left arm reaching across hayateumi's chest.
Not to be denied, yokozuna Musashimaru used his heavy body to crush out No. 5 maegashira Tochisakae (5-5) at the edge of ring to remain in striking distance of the front-runner at 8-2.
The only other wrestler at 8-2 is Mongolia's Kyokushuzan, who backed Otsukasa (5) out of the ring in an earlier bout.
Ozeki Musoyama (6-4), meanwhile, was too much for third-ranked maegashira Takanonami (5-5) as he plowed forward and dumped the former ozeki onto his back outside of the ring.
Dejima, however, still appeared off keel, as he was easily pulled down by No. 4 maegashira Tamagasuga (4-6).
The loss was Dejima's eighth, meaning the ozeki stands to lose his ranking in Nagoya if he cannot produce at least eight wins there -- just after staving off relegation with an 8-7 record in March.
Newly promoted komusubi Asashoryu (6-4) looked in good form to defeat Tochinonada (2-8) shoving the more experienced sekiwake to the edge of the ring, but Tochinonada swerved at the edge and shoved the Mongolian upstart out for the surprise win.
Also, Mongolia's Kyokutenho evened his record at 5-5 by marching makuuchi newcomer Wakatsutomu (6-4).
