Saturday, May 19, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Alexander & Baldwin Inc., which would make $68 million after taxes from its BancWest stock holdings if BNP Paribas' acquisition is approved, paced the 14 Hawaii-based companies this week in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. A&B banking

approvalCentral Pacific Bank parent CPB Inc. was next with a 5.79 percent gain followed by CB Bancshares Inc. with a 4.79 percent rise.
Schuler Homes, one of last week's big winners with a 12.38 percent advance, nearly gave back all its gains as it fell 11.08 percent.
