Truby sent to Triple-A

HOUSTON >> The Houston Astros sent Damien Memorial High School alumnus Chris Truby to Triple-A New Orleans yesterday to make room for former All-Star third baseman Vinny Castilla

Truby, 27, had been Houston's regular third baseman this season, hitting .217 with seven homers and 22 RBI in 34 games. He had 26 hits and 33 strikeouts in 120 at-bats.

The 33-year-old Castilla, who was released by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays six days ago, was hitting .215 with two home runs and nine RBIs during 24 games for the Devil Rays this season.

Castilla, a two-time All-Star with the Colorado Rockies, batted .221 with six homers and 42 RBI in 85 games during his first season with the Devil Rays in 2000.

He's a career .290 hitter with 211 homers and 662 runs batted in during 1,065 major-league games with Atlanta, Colorado and Tampa Bay since 1991.

Castilla went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs yesterday for Houston against the Chicago Cubs.

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani School product did not pitch in Los Angeles' 2-0 loss to Montreal.
