Anthony Ilagan of Farrington and Mililani's Krystal Hangai won their respective matches yesterday to claim the singles titles of the Oahu Interscholastic Association's tennis championships at the University of Hawaii courts. Tennis champs crowned
Star-Bulletin staffIlagan defeated Jeremy Young of Mililani, 6-3, 6-4, for the boys' title. Hangai beat Farrington's Wailyn Leong, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles competition, Aiea's Bryce Kawabe and Arthur Phanpengdy downed Kalaheo's Matt Chang and Mike Chong, 6-2, 6-0, for the boys' championship.
The girls' title went to Pearl City's Jennifer Watanabe and Kellie Crail, who defeated Jennifer Watanabe and Dinh Quach of McKinley, 6-1, 6-2.
The Carlsmith Ball High School State Tennis Championship begins Friday at the Kiahuna and Poipu Kai tennis centers on Kauai.
Preliminary rounds start at 6 p.m. Friday with qualifying rounds beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The third-place matches and finals are scheduled for the Punahou School courts next Tuesday. Play starts at 4:30 p.m.
