Their legs may have been too tired for dancing, but the seniors on the Mililani boys and girls track and field teams certainly enjoyed their prom last night. Mililani ekes out

No records were set at yesterday's meet, which was attended by about 250 people.
The Mililani girls barely won their fourth OIA title in a row, edging Kahuku, 63-6213. Zero point production in the relays killed the Red Raiders; they were disqualified from the 4x200 because of an out-of-zone pass, and they didn't enter a team in the 4x400.
"I was like, 'Oh, they're not here (in the relay),' " said Mililani captain Cherina Tucker, who ran the first leg of the Trojans' second-place 4x400 relay.
It was the only place Kahuku's Natasha Kai was not yesterday. The senior, who is headed to the University of Hawaii to play soccer, turned in an incredible five-first-place performance.
It was obvious that confusion over a mismeasurement at last week's OIA East championships that indicated she had broken the state record in the long jump did not cause Kai to lose focus yesterday.
"It didn't bother me at all," Kai said. "Mistakes happen. People made a big deal out of it, but life goes on." She won the 100 high hurdles (15.67), long jump (16-834), 300 low hurdles (46.49), triple jump (35-10) and the high jump (4-11). Kai was also a member of the ill-fated 4x200 relay team.
Since the limit of events for an individual is six, Kai could not run on the meet-closing 4x400 relay. Neither could her sophomore sister, Krisha, and the Red Raiders didn't enter the event.
Still, strong performances in the shot put and discus by Sassy Fely (second and third) and Ashley Fely (third and first) kept Kahuku in it even without representation in the final event. One bad baton pass by Mililani and the meet could be Kahuku's.
But the Trojans ran a clean race and finished second to Pearl City. It was just enough.
"This is by far our closest win," said Shane Akamine, who is completing his final season as Mililani's boys and girls coach. "We were chasing all meet. We kept on chasing, battling, battling. I told the girls, if you're not good enough to win the meet, you'll have the prom to go to tonight and at least you can feel good about that."
Dane Masunaga replaces Akamine next season.
Meanwhile, the Mililani boys were quietly dominant, scoring 77 points with no superstars on their way to their third consecutive OIA championship and fourth overall. Pearl City and Radford tied for second with 35 points each.
Trojans captain Kali French said a midseason team meeting helped the team.
"We kind of knew this season would take a lot of work," said French, who won the 400 meters and was second in the 200. "We started the season kind of disappointing ourselves. We came in third in the OIA relays, and we're supposed to be on top. Andrew (Kamikawa) and Brian (Daniels) and me are captains, so we took charge some more."
Kamikawa doubled with victories in the 800 and 1,500 meters to lead Mililani.
Daniels won the 100 meters in a time of 11.28. Daniels, who is headed for Dixie State College next fall on a football scholarship, also competed in the discus and shot put, placing fifth in the latter. He also anchored the winning 4x100 relay team.
"I just try to focus on the events as they come up," he said.
William Broadus Jr. added a victory in the 110 high hurdles.
