Saturday, May 12, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

BancWest Corp., which surged 37.7 percent this week after French bank BNP Paribas offered to buy the 55 percent of the company it doesn't already own, easily outdistanced the 14 Hawaii-based companies in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index. BancWest laughs all
the way to the bankSchuler Homes also had a double-digit gain with a 12.4 percent advance. Its stock, however, was up even higher but fell back at midweek after posting a 29.7 percent increase in earnings.
Cyanotech trailed the group as its stock fell 8.3 percent.
