Athletes of the Week

Boys

>> The St. Louis judo team: The Crusaders won all seven of their championship matches to claim the first Interscholastic League of Honolulu title.

Girls

>> Natasha Kai, Kahuku track and field: Won the high jump, long jump, triple jump, 100- and 300-meter hurdles and ran on Kahuku's victorious 4x100-meter relay team at Saturday's Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division championships. She also averaged 11 points in four games for the Red Raiders girls basketball team last week.

Honor Roll

BASEBALL

>> Dane Marcouiller, Mid-Pacific: Went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run in the Owls' 4-3 win over Iolani in Saturday's ILH championship game.
>> Kyle Yanabu, Mid-Pacific: Hit a home run and a triple and scored the winning run against Iolani.
>> Tyson Usui, St. Joseph: Struck out eight batters in a five-inning no-hitter against Honokaa on Saturday.
>> Omar Tucker and Kevin Oishi, Aiea: Combined for a near-perfect game against Waialua on Saturday.
>> Jon Kato and Jeff Soranaka, Pac-Five: Gave up just five hits between them in wins against Kamehameha and Punahou as the Wolfpack finished third in the ILH tournament.
>> Gainor Nitta, Mililani: Struck out 10 batters in a one-hit shutout of Aiea on May 2.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

>> Milia Macfarlane, Punahou: Hit all six of her 3-point shot attempts in a 23-point performance Friday against Kamehameha. She also posted five steals, three rebounds and four assists in the ILH title game.
>> Brandy Richardson, Kalaheo: Averaged 21.3 points in four games last week, including 28 against Kahuku.
>> Aritta Lane, Aiea: Scored 29 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in Na Alii wins over Leilehua and Waianae.
>> Kylie Nakamura, Aiea: Posted 28 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and eight steals in Aiea's last two games.
>> Ashley Takata, Kalani: Scored 30 points against Kahuku on May 3, then hit for 27 against Kaiser the following night.

GOLF

>> Angela Apelu, Radford: Carded a round of 72 to win the OIA girls championship Saturday at Kalakaua Golf Course.
>> Grant Yasui, Pearl City: Shot a 71 to win the OIA boys title at Makaha Resort Golf Course.

JUDO

>> Aaron Raney, Iolani: Won the boys 165-pound division title at the first ILH championship meet, to complete an undefeated season.

TRACK AND FIELD

>> Kali French, Mililani: Won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races at the OIA West championships Saturday.
>> William Broadus, Mililani: Broke the OIA West record with a high jump of 6 feet, 6 inches.
>> Todd Iacovelli, Punahou: Dominated the distance events at the ILH championships, winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:12.46 and the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:35.88.

>> The McKinley girls basketball team's quarterly scores for its game at Kailua on May 3 read 9-6-8-14, which is also the school's zip code.

Back in the Day

May 8, 1997

>> Hawaii Baptist Academy's Norman Asao wins the state golf title at the Wailua Golf Course after failing to finish in the top 20 in his previous two attempts. Punahou's Anna Umemura wins the girls title by 13 strokes over runner-up Kathy Cho.
