Water board hands
out $3.7 million for
renovations

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply has awarded slightly more than $3.7 million in contracts to six companies for renovations and repairs.

Chief engineer Clifford Jamile said, said the work is being done because some facilities and equipment are no longer efficient due to aging.

A monitor well will be drilled to observe the condition of the aquifer in order to help the department maintain groundwater services.

Projects will take place in the following neighborhoods:

>> Makiki: Beylik Drilling Inc. was awarded $275,000 to drill and case a monitor well in the upper Punchbowl area above Stevenson Middle School. Completion is expected in mid-August.

>> Kalihi: Okada Trucking Co. was awarded $1,300,180 to renovate the employee parking lot, open storage area, lumber storage shed, access road and truck washing road within the Board of Water Supply Kalihi corporation yard at the end of Kini Place.

>> Punaluu: Site Engineering Inc. was awarded $292,000 to renovate existing electrical and mechanical equipment at the 53-500 Haleaha Road facility.

>> Waipahu: Jas. W. Glover Ltd. was awarded $135,400 to replace the back-wash system and flow meters on the granular activated carbon filters at the Waipahu Wells I site at 94-800 Lumiana Place.

>> Makaha: Nakai Electrical Service Inc. was awarded $275,289 to replace electrical equipment in the Makaha Well I facility at 84-790 Kili Drive.

>> Makaha: M & M Tanks Inc. was awarded $1,427,890 to repair the deteriorating conditions at Glover Tunnel, Mauna Olu Nonpotable Reservoir, and the transmission main that links them on Mauna Olu Street between Alahea and Maiola streets.
