Stacey Porter's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and the University of Hawaii softball team went on to a 7-2 victory over San Jose State in the second game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader last night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

It was the second homer of the day for Porter, whose two-run shot to center helped the Wahine defeat the Spartans, 5-2 in the opener.

Hawaii (44-16, 14-4 WAC) faces San Jose State (26-35, 5-11) in a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m. It is the regular-season finale for both teams.

Following the second game, Hawaii will honor its four seniors: Desiree Duran, Kristin Anderson, Jannelle Gonzales and Tyree Woodruff.

In the first game, Hawaii staked pitcher Duran to a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Duran (16-4) scattered eight hits and struck out four, giving up two runs in the top of the seventh, to get her eighth consecutive WAC victory.

Kate Judd's two-run double in the first put Hawaii ahead, 2-0. In the third, Judd followed Porter's home run with a solo round-tripper of her own to conclude the Wahine scoring.

In the nightcap, freshman pitcher Felicity Witt (21-10) won her fourth straight, scattering six hits.

San Jose State (26-35, 5-11) took a 1-0 lead in the first but Hawaii tied it in the second when pinch runner Kimi Kaneshiro scored on a wild pitch.

The Spartans closed to 3-2 in the fifth when Katie Gomes scored on a two-out error by Witt.

The Wahine broke it open with a three-run fifth, highlighted by Porter's fifth home run of the season.

Hawaii added a run in the sixth on Natalie Gonzales' single to short that scored Anderson.
