Localite tracks
kinfolk and carpets
in Ireland

LIKE any loyal Irish person in search of roots, Pat Moore is off to Ireland to tread on the same soil as her Chastain ancestors. She's also going to be strolling on some carpets as well. Moore, who was married (twice) to newscaster Joe Moore and was once "an item" with ex-newscaster Tim Tindall, is interior design coordinator for Outrigger Hotels. And since the carpeting they've chosen for some properties which are being upgraded extensively comes from Ulster, Moore is off to visit the factory where they're manufactured. After getting business out of the way, Pat and her son, Mark, are getting a rent-a-car and tooling through the Irish countryside, in search of her Chastain relatives. She even has the names of parishes where they were christened. Knowing I've been to Ireland on several occasions, she called to ask for advice on where to go and what to see, a task I approached with enthusiasm, providing she bring back photos to share. Not a problem, since Mark is an exec with Olympus cameras in New York, and she just happens to have a new Olympus ...

FINALIZING plans for her July 7 wedding is local model Wana'ao Watson, who's planning her fireworks for three days after the rest of us. But before any of that happens, she's off next week with a girlfriend, fellow actor Bambi Birnbaum, to Greece to appear in a film, ".com 4 Murder," which stars Nicolette Sheridan, Nastassja Kinski, Roger Daltry and Huey Lewis. Her fiance, Chris Eldridge, owner of Mattress Outlets, has to be one understanding guy because after Wana'ao plays a murder victim in Greece, she and some cast members are off to the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival. If there's a category for sexy murder victim, I'd vote for her ...

Conch-eousness

IT isn't often that Continental Airlines' Ron Wright would get up early on Lei Day, but this year was different. He wanted to establish a good position at Kapiolani Park to get shots of 2001 Lei Queen Kathryn Pi'ilani Bell at the Lei Queen investiture. How come? Bell is an 11-year Continental customer service rep from Honolulu and Wright saw promotional opportunities in photos of her. Trouble was, the master conch- blower for the program kept obstructing the view, but Wright didn't complain since the man was Bell's father ...

THE MDA soiree at the Royal Hawaiian Monarch Room was a huge success, with more than 600 guests shelling out $100 each to dine on food from some of Hawaii's finest chefs. Entertainment was by Henry Kapono, Krush and Flute a la Harpe. Auctioneer Joe Teipel raised additional thousands for MDA with wheelchair-bound Paul Sheriff landing a sports car with a bid of $32,000 ...

Queen of the Sopranos

SHE'S not a member of the HBO show, "The Sopranos," but it's difficult to make a list of top sopranos today without including the name Helen Donath. She'll be performing Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Hawaii Theatre in a benefit recital for Hawaii Opera Theatre's education programs. It won't be opera, but Donath will perform a bit of Broadway and a variety of art songs in various languages, even some songs by Queen Kapiolani ...
