Star-BulletinBut the Rainbows also lose two players with eligibility remaining. Guards Jeep Hilton and Ricky Terrell won't be back.
"They've both asked for their release," UH head coach Riley Wallace said yesterday. "We renewed their scholarships, but they've asked (to be officially released) to go somewhere else."
Both were in the regular lineup at times for UH last year, but neither was in the playing rotation at the end of the season.
Hilton, who was a true freshman, started 18 of 22 games he played.
He averaged 2.3 points and 2.7 assists and 2.7 turnovers in 22.7 minutes per game.
He said he will transfer to either Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla., or Kilgore (Texas) College.
"I've had it in my mind for awhile," Hilton said. "It looked like the (UH) offense wasn't suited to my style."
Terrell, a junior college transfer who was a junior in eligibility, played in 14 games, starting one. He averaged 1.7 points, 1.0 assists and 1.4 turnovers.
Terrell was unavailable for comment.
The Rainbows last week signed point guard Mark Campbell, who is expected to compete with holdovers Carl English and Mike McIntyre for the starting spot next fall.
The departure of Hilton and Terrell leaves UH with one more scholarship available.
